"Mayor’s Message"

It’s that time of year again -- the preseason to the Peachland Fall Fair.  It’s the start of a busy and exciting time of year for potential entrants, a time to check out the new Fall Fair booklet and start thinking about many categories and possible entries you’d like to submit. It quickly becomes a time of preparation, for both the exhibitors and the many dedicated volunteers and organizers who make the fair possible.

Fall Fairs are a celebration of people and the products they produce, from fruits and vegetables, baked goods and handcrafts to photography, writing, and so much more. This year’s theme of “Back to Basics: 101” is a perfect way to describe the core of what a fall fair is all about. Creating something by one’s own hands and mind can be a lost art in today’s highly technological and industrialized world.

The Fall Fair is always a highlight of the year for the District of Peachland. Over its 101-year existence, the fair has become a valued and ingrained part of our community’s history and identity.

On another note…on behalf of the District of Peachland, I’d also like to recognize and thank Martha Jenkins for her three decades of volunteer service with the Fall Fair, including several years as President, and welcome Tami Theriault, as she steps into the role. You have big shoes to fill, but I have no doubt you’ll fill them well!

Happy 101st year to the Peachland Fall Fair!  Can’t wait to see you.

Mayor Cindy Fortin
